Market credits

Solar renewable energy credits in Maryland and DC

An SREC is a market certificate, not utility-bill savings and not guaranteed income. Renovessa only models a projection when an independently reviewed market-variable version is active for the correct jurisdiction and date.

Production does not automatically become a saleable credit

A system generally must meet the applicable certification, metering, ownership and tracking requirements. The contract may assign environmental attributes to another party. Renovessa surfaces those questions instead of assuming the homeowner owns and can sell every credit.

Market value is volatile

Maryland and District credits trade under different programs and markets. Historical or advertised prices are not a defensible future guarantee. A projection needs a source, jurisdiction, capture time, validity window, reviewer and approval status independent of the general incentive record.

Keep SRECs outside core utility savings

The calculator separates avoided utility purchases, export compensation and potential SREC cash flow. That makes it possible to see the economics without market-credit proceeds and avoids turning a volatile assumption into a hidden retail-rate boost.

Frequently asked questions

Does every solar homeowner receive SREC income?
No. Certification, ownership, tracking and market participation requirements apply, and the contract may transfer the credits.
Does Renovessa use one SREC price for Maryland and DC?
No. Market assumptions are jurisdiction-specific, versioned and independently gated. If an approved current source is unavailable, no dollar projection is shown.
Are SRECs the same as net-metering credits?
No. SRECs represent environmental attributes; net-metering or export credits concern electricity sent to the grid.
