Northern Virginia
Northern Virginia solar calculator and planning guide
A Virginia result follows Virginia sources. It distinguishes the SCC framework from the serving utility's current tariff and process, including Dominion and NOVEC where applicable.
Virginia regulator and named-utility source review complete; account and locality verification remain required.
Start with the serving utility
Northern Virginia includes investor-owned utility and cooperative service areas. Dominion and NOVEC have different customer systems and application materials; location can suggest a candidate, but the bill or account confirms it.
Net metering and interconnection
Virginia SCC provides the regulatory starting point. The system size, customer class, utility tariff and current interconnection documents determine the project-specific path. Renovessa stores the source version used rather than embedding a Virginia rule in a UI component.
Local project details still matter
Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Loudoun and other jurisdictions can have different permit workflows, review portals and building conditions. Renovessa will publish locality pages only after the permitting authority, utility candidates and unique evidence are reviewed—not by replacing city names in a template.
Frequently asked questions
- Does Renovessa use Maryland incentive assumptions in Virginia?
- No. Jurisdiction filters prevent Maryland or DC programs from being included in a Virginia result.
- Is Dominion the utility for every Northern Virginia home?
- No. NOVEC and other providers serve parts of the region. Confirm the utility from the account or bill.
- Is a Virginia solar estimate an interconnection approval?
- No. The serving utility must review the actual installer design and grant permission under its current process.
Sources, review and limitations
Renovessa uses primary government, regulator, utility and model-provider sources. Links below are the evidence pack for this guide; account rules, funding and eligibility still require confirmation at decision time.
- Virginia State Corporation Commission — net metering
Virginia regulator overview and governing resources.
- Dominion Energy Virginia — net metering
Utility-specific program and application information.
- NOVEC — net metering
Cooperative-specific program information for eligible NOVEC customers.
- Substantive change
- Added SCC, Dominion and NOVEC-specific routing and anti-doorway publication criteria.
- Update policy
- Review dates change only after the evidence or explanation is substantively checked—not automatically.
